The DamJam Podcast Ep.5 – Q4D goes audio only

[audio: https://ia601500.us.archive.org/15/items/TDJ005/TDJ005.mp3%5D

In this weeks episode I’m once again on my own and searching for a good solo topic I got a helpful suggestion from one of my G+ followers to make a kind of longer Q4D audio only version, and so it is how Q4D audio only got created.

Here are these episodes questions

– favorite author or genre ?
– Do you think mobile operating systems would be like we know them right now if it wasn’t for apple “revolutionizing” how a smartphone is used (apps, touch operating without stylus, interface e.g.)?
(Credit where credit is due)
– What new features would you like to see custom roms implement to make them less stale?
– What’s the main reason you started your YouTube channel?
– Do u have any wife/girlfriend/kids?
– What angers you most about tech today?
– Do you think smartphones will change in shape in the future?
– How different would history be if ancient people had the technology that we do now 😉
– Don’t remember if I asked this before but what 2 cameras do you use in your dual camera setup and what mic do you use in your regular videos?
– How much are you enjoying your new (lighting fast) internet connection?
– Do you have any plans to reboot your INTA series from the Droid Effect on the DamJam website?
– What are your thoughts on Google Inbox? Would you use it as your primary e-mail client for Android? Windows? If not, what would you use instead for Android/Windows?
– What are some of your favorite non-tech YouTube channels you always watch the videos of?
– Going off of what +Vardan Nazaretyan said, what are some of you favorite TECH YouTube channels?

  1. So Basically, your new internet connection is slower than my HSDPA-connection? Is it because of where you live? Or is it more a financial decision? My home connection is 13 MB/s (so indeed megabyte, not megabit) down and 1 MB/s up. On my phone, my downloads of f.e. the DamJam podcast are going with 1,3 MB/s, and that’s in the rural area where I live. In f.e. Amsterdam or The Hague it would be even faster, and even more fast if I had 4G.

What angers me about tech are the fake specs. Like dynamic contrasts on TV’s or the refresh rate based on the image engine, both don’t teach you anything about the capabilities of the concerning TV. You can’t judge a TV based on the specs anymore. Also, there should be a better standard for f.e. 4K. Those cheap Samsung 6000-series supposedly offer 4K-panels for around 1000 euro’s while in fact you’ll only notice that resolutions on those crappy panels when the image isn’t moving, making the 4K-spec in that case useless. For normal people, specs don’t say anything anymore.

The stupid thing is that last years 6000-series actually offered great picture quality for the price. But now, even the the non-1080p 6000-series Samsungs are ok at best, since Sony did remain on the 1080p route in this segment and improved their W8 serie (which last year was on the same level as last years Samsung-6000 series).

And the whole fanboy thing comes around the corner here as well, but not in the same way you were talking about. Samsung isn’t going to notice any decrease in sales because people will still buy it because it says ‘Samsung’ on it.

    1. the issue is my street, the limit there is 11Mbit and like mentioned a lot of times before, one street further down 120Mbit and 20MBit up would be possible. No financial decision, I’d be happy to pay more mostly for higher upload speeds since uploading videos literally takes half a day

  2. Ouch, that must be a pain. Ever tried contacting your local government to get a cable or fiber connection possibility? My brother had the same problem as you because he lives on an island and they didn’t had the infrastructure right. Within 6 months they had fiber with a maintenance unit for that single island on which not even a hundred people live.

BTW, Brian Cox was a guest in Joe Rogan’s podcast yesterday. They’re pretty cool podcasts about general stuff (ofcourse skewed towards the interests of the guest) and are three hours long.

    1. There’s a regulation that I think 25mbit is mandatory but not before 2019 or so. So I won’t hold my breath for now.
Thanks for the tip, gonna check that podcast later at home, can’t wait to hear it
